Important Update From The Guild

Dear friends of The American History Guild,
When the History Guild was founded about three years ago, JT Adams realized his vision for a confraternity of people who love and appreciate American history and liberty. Since the Guild opened its doors we have provided more than one hundred quality programs including lectures, classes, history tours, documentary film premiers, and children’s story hours. Our museum displays, art work, and the three month visit of the Providence Forum Liberty Bell have enhanced everyone’s learning experience.

Our history shoppe featured hundreds of good books and the artifacts and historical re­productions from the award-winning John Adams miniseries produced by HBO. We were also able to offer memorabilia from the celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of America’s founding at Jamestown, the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Theodore Roosevelt, and the two hundredth Anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln.

The most interesting and commented upon aspect of The Guild, however, has been the good fellowship and camaraderie of the members and friends as we gathered once a week to learn and explore the profound truths of our past. The most popular programs seemed to be the ones featuring World War II veterans, without whom, an institution such as the American History Guild would not and could not exist. What the men and women of that generation accomplished to preserve our freedom requires commemoration and celebra­tion.

In the course of the last year and a half the business relationships that have sustained The Guild have succumbed to the vicissitudes and economic misadventures of which we are all so familiar. The result has been the loss of our tenure at the Ellard location and we have temporarily closed our doors there.

The American History Guild, nonetheless, is seeking a new location and new funding to revive our physical presence in the Atlanta area. Our new circumstances have enabled us to pursue one aspect of the original Guild plan which heretofore has been neglected. We hope to unveil in the near future a genealogy services program unlike any currently in ex­istence. We will also continue our website with interesting blogs, articles, and links related to American history, as well as more battlefield tours, as the Civil War Sesquicentennial approaches.

We offer our sincerest thanks for your support of the American History Guild and hope you stay with us through these times of national historical amnesia; as Patrick Henry be­lieved:

Freedom is never one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children through the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children or our children’s children what it was like in the United States when men were free.
